Oberin

OberinOberin is an online fantasy role-playing game available exclusively for Macintosh.Oberin takes place in a persistent, ever evolving world -- your character may come and go, but the world continuously runs. While there are many separate quests that can be completed in Oberin, there is no ultimate goal when playing. The journey is the reward. It's an online fantasy world where the fun comes from interacting with other real players. You can join a group of fellow players to hunt for dragons, spend a quiet day fishing, meet a friend at the pub for a game of chess, or spend some time refining your chosen skills.

OberinThe most important thing you need to do in Oberin is make a living. You may have aspirations of being a famous and valiant warrior, but you won't be slaying any dragons your first day in Oberin. In fact, you will be lucky if you can scrap together enough gold to feed yourself. Everyone starts Oberin as a lowly peasant. It takes time and patience to build a highly skilled character.

There are six character classes in Oberin:

Clerics are masters of divine magic. Divine magic is especially good at healing. Clerics can cast spells to heal, detoxify, protect, and enhance physical and mental attributes. Even an inexperienced cleric can bring people back from the brink, and an experienced cleric can bring people back who have crossed over that brink.

Druids are magical characters who are very much in touch with nature. Their magical abilities tend to focus more on the natural world. Their field of magic can often be used to influence the temperament and actions of aggressive creatures, allowing them a degree of safety in the wilds unknown to other characters.

Fighters have no use for magic. Their physical attributes by far tend to exceed their mental capacity. They can excel at using a range of different types of weapons and armor, but they tend to fall short at any skill that requires an advanced intellect. While fighters excel mostly at combat skills, their experience in battle has also led them to learn much about their foes' anatomy.

The ranger is also a fighting character, but he tends to be a little smarter than the standard fighter. He's not as strong as the fighter, and most of his combat skills lag behind those of the fighter, but his added intelligence allows him to surpass the fighter in other areas.

Rogues are tricky skillful scouts, infiltrators, and spies. They are versatile, adaptable, and resourceful. They are skilled at things such gaining entrance to a locked treasure vault and safe passage past a deadly trap. Figuring out how to thwart or avoid an alarm or trap is great fun for many rogues.

Unlike clerics and druids, wizards channel magical energy primarily for offensive purposes. The wizard can attack an enemy with spells such as explosion, lightning bolt, and poison. The wizard's magical abilities allow him to attack adversaries at distances greater than is often possible with a standard fighter character.
